Prep Academy Tutors only hires qualified and experienced certified teachers. Our compassionate tutors in Winnipeg maintain a level of professionalism and service when providing your child with private education. The reality is that it is only getting harder for teachers to get a job with a school board. Even when they do, the increasing class sizes in Manitoba make it that much harder for teachers to provide students with the personalized attention they need to fill in any gaps in their knowledge. We hire certified teachers to give them an alternative option on their career path as an educator and to give them the ability to form close relationships with students. This helps to create an enriching and fulfilling experience for both tutor and student.

At Home and Online One-on-One Tutoring
We bring education to your home with one-on-one tutoring in Winnipeg. Our at-home tutoring services allow us to educate your child in an environment that is familiar, comfortable, and less overwhelming than a classroom of their peers.
Your child already has a teacher who educates them from the front of the classroom. Instead of acting like a teacher, our tutors take the role of that “smart friend” who is relatable, and can explain things in a way that is easier to understand.
Our tutors work with each student to form a bond and understand how it is that they learn best. This personal attention allows tutors to create an education plan that is specifically geared towards a student’s unique needs. This often includes supplementary activities and revisiting specific subject matter to fill in any gaps in a student’s knowledge.
When you enlist the help of our tutors for at-home tutoring, you can rest easy knowing that our educators will work around your schedule. Our certified tutors are committed to providing your child with the approach to education they need, at the right time for them. At Prep Academy Tutors, we know that private education is about your child learning at their own pace.
Semi-Private Tutoring Sessions
Semi-private tutoring takes advantage of what happens when you put two heads together. Prep Academy Tutors offers semi-private tutoring for children and their friends who want to receive additional, personalized education alongside one another.
Having the support of a like-minded friend can make tutoring a less daunting and more exciting experience for students hesitant in making that step in their educational journey.
Semi-private tutoring allows students to benefit from having the same instructor while also getting a more personalized approach to education.
Group Tutoring Services
Our group tutoring in Winnipeg is geared towards students who learn best in a collaborative setting where they can thrive off of the energy and support of like-minded learners. Prep Academy Tutors offers group tutoring for groups of 3-6 students.

Suzi Friesen
Suzi is excited to be part of the Prep Academy team, as she has always been passionate about teaching. Helping her parents learn English, as they immigrated from Portugal, was when she first learned about the rewarding feeling of empowering others. At 13 years of age, she started her own summer camp and at 16 she started working with children aged 6 months to 12 years old at The Wellness Institute (W.I). Her 11 years at W.I. is where she built on her teaching practices, writing curricula and learning how to lead a team while planning and teaching various children’s programs.
Suzi is known for always being mindful of putting students’ individual needs first. Providing students with opportunities to succeed and build on their confidence and problem-solving skills. Suzi’s great listening skills and love for teaching is what made her a successful teacher in Manitoba. She completed her 5 year – Integrated Bachelor of Education program at the University of Winnipeg and completed each year’s practicum, in schools in disadvantaged communities. This prepared her for her 8 years of teaching in Winnipeg, which then led her to her role with the True North Youth Foundation. Since 2014, Suzi has been the Director of Educational Programs, focusing on the development of the TNYF’s mental wellness program, Project 11. Promoting mental health awareness has always been a meaningful area of focus for Suzi. The importance of helping students turn challenging moments into resilient moments and helping them find their inner-strength to inquire, become self-aware and build on their self-esteem, is what she truly loves to do.

All types of learners felt heard and felt empowered in Kyle’s classes.
Kyle has seen the benefits of tutors in his students’ lives. Whether it has inspired students who continue to understand the importance of goal-setting and hard work, or whether students simply benefit from the fact that they feel relieved to not have to figure everything out on their own, Kyle explains to his students that it is okay to ask questions. Being able to bring high quality tutoring services connecting remarkable educators to Manitoba students so that they can reach their academic goals is truly rewarding for Kyle. About
Hello everyone! My name is Amanda and I am a teacher in Manitoba. I LOVE teaching and learning! English, math, and science are my three favourite subjects (oh – and art!). However, I cannot say there are any subjects that I don’t like! I have experience teaching grades K-6 in both Manitoba and Ontario. I love to teach using multiple methods so it gives each learner unique opportunities to engage with and access material in different ways and to think flexibly. I like to make learning fun by using manipulatives when available and practicing skills using games when possible. I think that using manipulatives and games makes learning more meaningful and FUN – which is what learning should be! You can count on me to go the extra step to meet your learning needs. My goal is to give you strategies and skills so you can think, problem solve, and conquer! I will model these strategies for you, as well as my love for learning – which can be contagious. I will model a growth mindset to help you feel just as confident in yourself as I’ll be in you. Let’s do some learning and growing together. I look forward to meeting you!

About
Hello! I’m Mr.Dave, and I’ve been helping students understand physics, math, and science for over 30 years. I started my tutoring career by answering an ad when I was in university, and I was amazed at how much fun it was to watch a student suddenly understand concepts they had been struggling with for months.
That first experience changed the course of my life, and led me into a lot more tutoring work, and a second Bachelor’s degree. Eventually, I found myself teaching physics, mathematics, and general science in a private high school for 25 years.
Now I’m transitioning my teaching to a more online medium, and I still love helping young people overcome their challenges in those tough courses.
My focus, especially in physics and science, is to help students really grasp the material conceptually first. Once they have a “gut feeling” about how things really work, students can quickly understand the deeper levels of what is going on.
I have developed a logical, step-by-step approach that really applies to all physics problems. I want to help students learn to know intuitively what to try next. I use a similar approach in teaching math – and in both subjects, I like using several different ways of explaining each idea; different students perceive and learn in different ways, and I love to figure out which approach will work best with each individual.
After 25 years of teaching high school and designing courses, I have gigabytes of images, video clips, handouts, practice problems, and lesson ideas. I’m ready to share those resources to help students not only get unstuck, but also re-discover how much fun learning can be.
I’ve found that once a student is able to overcome a few key points of frustration, their natural curiosity and interest in the subject can be rekindled – and once that happens, the sky is the limit!
If you’re feeling frustrated and confused, it’s time to get connected, get a nudge in the right direction, and get back to enjoying your courses!

About
Hi there! I am Gabriella, but please feel free to call me Gabby! I am currently a teacher candidate at The University of Winnipeg where I am working towards fulfilling my lifelong dream of becoming a Math educator. I also have my Bachelor of Science with a major in Mathematics and minor in English. So, I love numbers and words! Math education is something I am very passionate about, and I believe that is something you will notice as I teach. I often hear people tell me that they are simply just not a “math person”, and I disagree with that statement strongly. I believe with proper instruction and the right mind set, everybody has the ability to succeed in Math. Math takes practice; much like how sports require practice. The more you practice, the better and more confident you will become! Apart from Math, I also love to teach English. I believe the two most important skills are both numeracy and literacy. I have a lot of experience helping students of all ages with both skills and equally enjoy doing both! In my free time, I love to golf, spend time at the lake, watch the Pittsburgh Penguins and Minnesota Vikings win, watch Marvel movies, listen to rock music, and play video games.
I look forward to helping you become the Math person that I know you can be! 🙂

Hello! I’m Jamie and I love Calculus and camping as much as I love Physics and Pinterest. I believe there is beauty and adventure to be found everywhere, and education has been one of the ways I have fueled this ongoing discovery. I chose to become a teacher after I experienced the joy of seeing my students go from anxious and intimidated to enthusiastic and resilient learners.
I’ve taught a wide range of junior and senior high Math and Science courses for the Winnipeg School Division over the past three years, but I got my start tutoring Math and Science through the University of Winnipeg Tutoring Centre. I also taught and supervised other teachers at Archimedes Math Schools, an afterschool non-profit for grades four to six. I love helping my students see all the applications and creative possibilities of learning difficult subjects while feeling less anxious. In the end, my goal is to help my students reach their full potential, develop independence, and be prepared for university as well as a life of continuous learning. I am looking forward to working with you!

About
Hello! I am Jordan (he/him), or Mr. Lasuik if you prefer. I received both my Bachelor and Master’s of Science at the University of Manitoba. My main areas of study were Physics, Math, and Philosophy. I am currently getting my Bachelor of Education to become a teacher, though I already have years of teaching and tutoring experience that I gained while working for the UofM. I specialize in middle and high school education, as well as university level classes.
I like to think that above all I am a friendly person who is easy to get along with. This has always been an asset to me in helping my students learn. I believe that students need to want to learn if they are going to succeed in doing so. Having someone who can make the learning process as stress free as possible is very important. I always tailor my tutoring so that my students are pushing themselves without wearing themselves out.
I keep up on current research in the field of education so I am always learning new and better methods of teaching. I want to make sure my students are getting the very best education that they can. I find that tutoring is quite different from teaching in that you get the chance to adapt your teaching style quite precisely in order to fit the unique needs of your student, and that is what I find so amazing about it. Every student can do well when they are given the opportunity to do so!

I have a Bachelor of Science (honors) degree with a major in Biology and minors in both Chemistry and Math, as well as a Bachelor of Education, both from Brandon University.
I am a newly retired Biology/Science teacher – teaching most of my incredibly successful 32 year career at a single public high school in Winnipeg. I have taught the current Science 20F, Biology 30S and Biology 40S curricula since their inception and would consider myself an expert teacher of these courses. Although my school did not offer AP Biology as an option, I have tutored students such that they could challenge the College Board AP Biology exam and score 4’s and 5’s. One of my greatest joys is watching students learn and achieve their academic goals. I am a calm, patient educator and am able to easily build trusting relationships with my students.
