Who We Are

Prep Academy Tutors is an in-home academic tutoring company providing educational support for pre-Kindergarten to 12th grade students in New York and Connecticut. Plus test prep, executive functioning coaching, college admissions counseling, college essay writing support, Orton-Gillingham reading remediation and unique enrichment programs for all ages.

Our Mission

Every Prep Academy student is capable of reaching academic success.  We provide our students with the right tools and resources to do so. We are committed to providing a customized approach, tailored to the unique needs of your child.

We are highly invested in Prep Academy’s tutor/student matching process. We spend time learning about each student to ensure each child is matched with a tutor who will best suit their needs and personal learning style. Our goal is to foster a trusting and empowering at-home educational environment.

Our personalized approach extends to our communication with parents, too. We know your child’s academic journey is important to you.  We work with you as a team, with classroom teachers and other service providers to help keep your child on track to academic fulfillment.

Our Team

Our elite team of tutors is made up of highly skilled and experienced certified teachers in New York and Connecticut. Our team is proud to offer academic support to students from pre-Kindergarten to 12th grade. Prep Academy Tutors hires certified educators with a wide variety of specialties including special education, certified reading specialists, early-childhood educators, Orton-Gillingham accredited professionals, STEM specialists, high school and AP-level math, science, history and English teachers. 

Our tutors cater their educational approach to each student’s individual needs, to fill in learning gaps, retain course material, catch up to peers, master advanced material and gain a new level of confidence in their academic ability. Our students and tutors form a close relationship that is encouraging and empowering.

Meet the owners

Sarah Loader 

Sarah is originally from Toronto, Canada and is a Canadian-trained lawyer. She worked for six years as an intellectual property lawyer and then joined a busy family real estate business, working in residential real estate sales for four years.  Sarah and her family moved to New York in 2018 and launched Prep Academy Tutors with Vanessa in 2020. Sarah has three children and enjoys being a well-integrated member of her family’s school community.  She lives in Bronxville.

Vanessa O’Friel 

Vanessa began her career in education as an assistant teacher at the Buckley School in New York City. In addition to teaching, Vanessa tutored students in math (pre-algebra, algebra and calculus) and helped them with organizational skills. Vanessa joined the science department at the Buckley School, where she taught environmental science in the elementary school, and health science to middle school students.  After many years at Buckley, Vanessa moved into teaching 9th grade Biology at the Collegiate School. Vanessa worked in admissions at the Rye Country Day School and lives in Bronxville with her husband and four children.
